We specialize in safe, affordable housing for ex-inmates. Furnished apartments, ready to move in with no deposits necessary! It may sound hard to believe but it's very true!
Have you recently been released from prison and are needing to make a change in your life? Are you tired of the old lifestyle of crime and prison? Ready to make a new positive change in your life? Let us help you!!
Because nearly 50% of parolees are homeless following their release, finding a safe, affordable place to live is a critical first step for most people who have recently been released from prison. Unfortunately this is extremely difficult for these folks, particularly those who have been in prison for long periods, as they do not often have a record of securing and maintaining their own apartments, and landlords are oft-times very hesitant to gamble on someone with a criminal record. In fact, some current federal and local regulations prohibit people with felony convictions from living in public housing and landlords often run background checks to screen out people with convictions.
Sadly, this is all too common in a system that expects ex-inmates to succeed on the "outside" typically with less than $100 in cash and only the clothes in which they came to prison with. Very few find gainful employment on their own, so the vast majority live hand to mouth, moving from place to place, and many end up in trouble or in prison again.
But there's light at the end of this very long tunnel! Take the first step with us towards successfully rebuilding your life!
When you are released from prison you will be sent to us by bus the majority of the time, although we have had a few folks in the past that have been flown here to Tampa. When you arrive at the bus station in downtown Tampa, someone from our staff will come to pick you up. Following a good hot meal, you will be explained the rules of our program.
We also are sensitive to the fact that ex-inmates usually have very little starting out financially. For this reason, as part of joining our program, you will receive free of charge, several outfits of clothing as well as some food from both our own clothes store as well as Metropolitan Ministries. Sorry, no modern hip-hop clothes in our store though! Since we rely exclusively on donations from the community to operate, sometimes our supplies are limited.
We believe that when ex-inmates are released from prison, they desire a second chance at having a successful and fulfilled life. We do not provide handouts, just a hand up. We feel that the best way to reduce the recidivism rate is to offer housing and jobs to felons.
We also offer program participants employment opportunities so that they can make an honest living for themselves and begin to stand on their own two feet again.
